About Javea

Javea (or Xabia) is easily accessible from Alicante and Valencia Airports (about an hour's drive from either).

The dominating feature in Javea is Mount Mongo, immediately to the north. The protection this affords the town is one of the factors responsible for the very mild climate, referred to by the World Health Organisation as 'almost as perfect as it is possible to attain'.

Jávea has a 20 km coastline that stretches from the Cova Tallá to the Cala de la Granadella. There is an interesting mixture of beaches with soft sandy beaches, small, shingled beaches bordered by pine trees which are suitable for diving. A more traditional Jávea is found inland with riu-raus and orange groves that are protected from the harsh continental climate by the natural barrier formed by Montgó, which extends to the north of Jávea and serves as a border between Jávea and Dénia.

The old town, with its 16th century church, covered market and fascinating narrow streets, built mostly with the local rough stone, ensures that it maintains its charming Medieval character.

Beaches

Javea has several beaches in easy reach of the villa. The main leisure beach is L'Arenal, which offers a wide sandy beach, with safe shallow, warm water ideal for young children. Every year, Jávea´s beaches are awarded the blue flag of the European Union

L' Arenal has many bars, restaurants, shops, banks and a supermarket "Mas y Mas" as well as parking spaces close to the beach. There is a well stocked local supermarket with a wide selection of English, Dutch and other European country foods.

In the opposite direction to L'Arenal are a number of small coves (calas) surrounded by high cliffs and with stone beaches. These are great for diving and snorkelling. The closest to us is Cala de la Granadella, only a couple of kilometres from the villa. Its a steep and winding route just behind the house. Also close by is Cala de Ambolo, a recognised nudist beach.

Jávea´s coast also hides a series of caves which are accessible by boat, such as the caves of "Tabaco" and "Orguens" around Capes Negre and La Nau, and the Cova Tallada on the Cap de Sant Antoni, which can also be reached on foot.

Somewhat further away is the large and impressive rocky beach, surrounded by high cliffs Cumbres del Sol. To reach head in the direction of Benitaxell and just before entering the village follow the sign for Urbanisation Cumbres del Sol on the left. Follow this up the mountain and down the other side, keep on winding your way down to the car park at the bottom. Be sure to check out the big water filled cave at the entrance to the car park.

Close to the village and port of Javea there are a number of stone beaches dedicated to windsurfing and jet skiing, most notably Platja Benisero. Here you will also find a number of beach bars (chiringitos) and the trendy, lively bar La Siesta (gets really lively after 1 am). A fun disco if you are into late night dancing is El Moli, on the Avinguda del Pla at the village end.

Finally, beyond the port nestling below the lighthouse on the top of Cap de San Antoni is a small stone beach with cliff side walks and a bar. An ideal spot for the children to throw stones into the sea whilst the parents enjoy a beer at sunset.

Make sure you visit both highest coastal points, the Cap de Sant Antoni & the Cap de la Nao. If you don't suffer too much from vertigo, the views are definitely breathtaking!

Sports Activities

This holiday resort also offers a whole range of different activities. It has two golf courses (a 9-hole and an 18-hole), a horse-riding school, all sorts of different water activities (windsurfing, sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, canoeing etc), tennis courts are within walking distance from the villa, and for the keen cyclist there are good mountain paths to follow.

Javea offers an enormous range of sports in easy range of the villa, namely:

Tennis
Golf - La Sella (Denia) and Club de Golf de Javea
Sailing
Windsurfing
Scuba diving
Horseriding
Bowls
Fitness Training/Gym

Weather

Like the rest of the Costa Blanca, Jávea-Xàbia's climate is warm. The Montgó protects the town from cold in winter and the easterly breezes mitigate the heat in summer.

Eating and Drinking

As in all of Spain there are an abundance of places to eat and drink at all hours of the day and night. Javea is located in the region of Spain rightly famous for its paellas and other rice based dishes such as arroz abanda, arroz negro, etc. Be sure to try some regional rice dishes whilst you are here.

On the Arenal beach there are restaurants to suit every taste and budget and in the port and village you will find more typical Spanish tapas bars and cafes. For the more adventurous you can try some of our favourites.
